Description

Butyl acetate (n-Butylethanoate) - is a colorless or slightly yellowish organic substance in the class of esters, with an average volatility and a characteristic smell of fruit ether.

Applications

Butyl acetate is the most common solvent in the preparation and application of paints and varnishes. Butyl acetate dissolves cellulose ethers, oils, fats, chlorinated rubber, vinyl polymers, carbolic resins, etc., but has little miscibility with water. It is used as a raw material for paints and varnishes and in the production of adhesives, solvents in various industries, is also used in the tanning industry as a tanning agent, and is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry to separate primary substances in the manufacture of antibiotics (as a desiccant), as well as for the synthesis chemical products. The addition of butyl acetate with a small amount of butyl alcohol prevents whitening of the lacquer films.
